What does Taek do?

Taek offers legal solutions through flexible packages, including Law as a Service, DPO as a Service, project-based work, and hourly rates. We tailor services to meet your business’s needs.

Who do you work with?

We work with start and scale ups, primarily within technology and fintech fields, offering business legal services to those clients. However, we also work with large and global enterprises.

What areas do you specialize in?

We are tech and fintech specialists. Our offering includes:

  1. Corporate Law, including structuring, governance and corporate finance
  2. Commercial and Technology Law
  3. AI, Privacy and Data Protection,
  4. FinTech,
  5. Intellectual Property

and more.
Where we do not offer services, such as litigation of property advice, we work with law firms.

Are you a traditional law firm?

Taek operates as a modern legal service provider. We deliver expert legal advice as a legal consultancy but aren’t a regulated law firm. A legal consultancy is a new and growing form of legal practice introduced under the SRA Standards and Regulations 2019 to, amongst other things, foster innovation, greater competition and raise standards. By not being regulated, we are able to pass on cost savings to our clients in the form of lower fees.

As a legal consultancy, there are a few points to note:

  1. We do not provide advice on reserved matters, or tax advice. Reserved matters include legal services such as conveyancing, litigation or any matter holding client money.
  2. As an unregulated legal services provider, we are not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), although the individuals who provide the work to you are qualified and regulated solicitors and subject to the same professional obligations as any other solicitor. The rules applying to our solicitors can be found on the SRA’s website at www.sra.org.uk.
  3. Legal consultancy clients are not eligible to make a claim under the SRA Compensation Fund where funds are misappropriated or not properly accounted for and certain other limited circumstances. Given that we do not hold client funds, the risks to you are limited.
  4. As a legal consultancy, certain advice that we provide may not be automatically privileged (that is legal advice that can be withheld from a court or third party in connection with litigation). Instead, our advice would be treated as any other professional advisor such as an accountant. As we do not provide contentious advice, the circumstances where this is relevant are limited.
  5. Legal consultancies are not obliged to carry professional indemnity insurance. However, we choose to do so.
Do you have an office?

As a modern legal service provider, we are a fully online firm, which means our staff work remotely or from coworking spaces. For face to face meetings we are happy to meet at a convenient location for you, or at a coworking space.

Do you have professional indemnity insurance?

DPO as a Service

What is DPO as a Service?
Our DPO as a Service offers expert, outsourced Data Protection Officer solutions, ensuring compliance with UK GDPR and other data protection laws.
Why do I need a DPO?
A DPO is essential for managing data privacy compliance, mitigating risks, and ensuring your organization adheres to regulatory requirements. Expert resource is needed for companies who are handling a lot of personal data, who are handling sensitive personal data such as financial information or health data.
How does outsourcing a DPO benefit my business?
Outsourcing ensures cost efficiency, access to specialized expertise, and removes the need for full-time, in-house staffing. Crucially, your outsourced DPO gets to know the business, its drivers and its culture and can offer greater value and insight compared to a transactional relationship as you might have with a traditional law firm whilst retaining cost benefit.
Is the DPO available for all business sizes?
Yes, our service is scalable for small businesses to large enterprises.
How does your DPO service ensure ongoing compliance?
Depending upon your needs and budget, we design compliance programmes to fit with good practice as well as your needs. Typically, we provide data mapping, contract reviews, audits, staff training, and policy updates to help keep you compliant.
Can you act as our company’s official DPO?
Yes, we can serve as your organization’s official DPO, liaising with regulatory authorities and handling all data protection matters. Only certain businesses are required to appoint a formal DPO.
What industries do you specialize in for DPO services?
We provide DPO services across multiple sectors including healthcare, finance, technology, and retail.
What does a DPO do?
A DPO’s responsibilities include managing data processing activities, conducting regular audits, responding to data subject access requests (SARs), overseeing data breach responses, and staying updated on data privacy laws. They also ensure that privacy policies and procedures are appropriate and regularly updated. A DPO will liaise with senior management and IT to ensure appropriate policies and systems are in place, and will often run projects associated with data mapping or compliance activities.
How much time does a DPO need to dedicate to my business?
This depends on your business size and complexity of your data operations. For most SME’s, one day a month is a good starting point. However, larger organizations or those with frequent data processing changes might require more time.
Is a DPO only for GDPR compliance?
While GDPR is a significant part of a DPO’s role, they also help ensure compliance with other data protection laws and regulations applicable in different jurisdictions. Although we are UK based, our DPOs have extensive experience in working internationally and with international data transfers.
What is included in DPO as a Service?
We provide time based services, supplemented with specific projects where appropriate. We agree an action plan with specific activities for us to undertake within the service. During this time you have unlimited consultations, access to template documents, know how and training and the comfort of knowing that our experts have your back.
